The City of Lights, City of Angels Film Festival features highlights of French cinema released in 2002. As the only French/English film site based in L.A., Plume Noire will be attending the event to cover a few entries from the selection and to support French culture at a time when "freedom" fries are on the menu.

A Piece Of Sky A Piece Of Sky
A Piece of Sky is about women who try to resist their environment and take advantage of it.

Love Thy Father Love Thy Father
Gérard Depardieu's life is strangely echoed in Love Thy Father, a heavy work about the tumultuous relationship between a writer and his son.

Try To Remember Try To Remember
Loss of memory is a very popular theme in today's cinema and its consequences have varied, from pure escapism to twisted machinations and sexual (re)discovery. Rather than capitalizing on the results of amnesia, Try To Remember examines the degenerative process of loss.

This year's festival features 11 films including works from established directors (Patrice Chéreau, Claude Berri, Michel Deville) and actors (Gérard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, Gérard Jugnot, Guillaume Canet) as well as newcomers. The selection is fairly conservative, mainly emphasizing drama, while 2002 proved to be quite a good year for French cinema in terms of variety, from edgy pictures—Novo & Into the Skin (review coming soon)—to animated—Corto Maltese—, cyber thrillers—Demonlover—and flawed action flicks—The Red Siren.
