Expand Your Head

Provocative, Hardcore and furious, LORDS OF ACID are the Marquis de Sade of techno. Their new LP Expand Your Head.com is a collection of remixes of the finer moments of their repertory.

The album starts with a surprisingly polished and polite "Am I Sexy" swing that you can hear in the movie Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and it's even more surprising when you know that one of their early tracks was featured on the enjoyably degrading cult film Bad Lieutenant from Abel Ferrara. But do not worry. Studio hypocrisy and purity is intact since this new song isn't on either of the Austin Powers 2's two soundtracks while you get your share of Lenny Kravitz and other harmless mellow songs (imagine your typical homemaker enjoying this nice swing on the soundtrack and then looking through the band's discography: suits would fall in the studios of the nice Austin Powers).

Anyway. Two other new tracks are available on the album: the effective but not very original "As I am" as well as the BEASTIE BOYS-ish "Who do you think you are". The appeal of the LP is not in these reheated tracks but in the remixes of the band's standards. The whole is mainly techno, hardcore and industrial with some more free variations, and certainly the most interesting. In the electronic sounds, the techno and industrial covers of the classic "I Sit on Acid" (GOD LIVES UNDERWATER & CARL S JOHANSEN) and "Rough Sex" (CRITTER & JOEY BELTRAM) are the most successful, between rage and orgasm, as well as the house remixes of "I Must Increase My Bust" and "Rubber Doll", without forgetting the unlisted track 17 ending the CD with thatunavoidable question in French.

The best moments are certainly the covers that stray very far from their origins, like "Let's Get High" à la CYPRESS HILL and a 70's style "Spank My Booty" somewhere between Starsky & Hutch and The Streets of San Francisco are way better than the originals. The rest of the album is less interesting or even boring ("Pussysymphonie").

Inevitably, Expand Your Head.com will satisfy fans, just as it was meant to.
